About Celvari
The EV transition decision, quantified
Celvari uses EPA fuel economy ratings, EIA energy prices, BLS price indexes and the AAA Your Driving Costs study to answer the question every car buyer asks: should I switch to electric? We model the total cost of ownership -- purchase price, fuel or charging, maintenance, insurance, registration, home charger and resale value -- and show how far fuel prices alone could move the answer.
The Problem
Switching from gas to electric is one of the most complex vehicle purchase decisions a consumer can make. Sticker price is misleading -- it ignores federal and state incentives, drastically different fuel costs, lower EV maintenance, battery degradation risk, home charger installation, higher EV insurance premiums, and state-specific registration fees. Online calculators offer simple arithmetic with no depth. Government tools exist but lack personalization. Most buyers are making a $30,000-$80,000 decision based on incomplete data.
Our Approach
We read vehicle fuel economy from EPA fueleconomy.gov, electricity prices from the EIA Electric Power Monthly, gasoline prices from EIA, price history from the BLS consumer price indexes, ownership costs from the AAA Your Driving Costs study and the federal credit status from the IRS. For each comparison we compute the cost year by year and then re-run it across historical fuel-price windows to report a range of savings. Purchase prices come from you; depreciation is our own estimate and is labeled as one.
Our Values
Public Data, Named
Fuel economy, fuel prices, price history, ownership costs and the federal credit status come from published sources (EPA, EIA, BLS, AAA, IRS). Each response lists its sources with the date they were fetched. Where no public source exists, we say so and label the value as our estimate.
No Agenda
We are not an EV company or an oil company. We have no financial incentive to steer you toward gas or electric. The math speaks for itself.
Honest Uncertainty
We do not sugarcoat projections. Your result carries a savings range measured from past fuel-price swings, and lists every value we had to assume.
Developer-First
